Indian Science Fiction Day Celebration

 The Department of English organized a special programme to commemorate Indian Science Fiction Day on 20th July, 2026 in the Vivekananda Auditorium. The programme was organized with the objective of cultivating scientific temper, encouraging critical thinking, and introducing students to the fascinating world of science fiction through cinematic experience and interactive discussion.

            The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolizing the pursuit of knowledge and enlightenment. Faculty members and students participated in the inaugural ceremony with enthusiasm, setting a positive and inspiring tone for the event.

            The programme was formally introduced by Mr. S. A. Kamble, Assistant Professor, Department of English. In his introductory address, he highlighted the significance of celebrating Indian Science Fiction Day and explained how science fiction serves as a bridge between scientific imagination and literary creativity. He emphasized that science fiction inspires innovation, stimulates curiosity, and encourages readers and viewers to reflect on the ethical, social, and technological implications of scientific advancement. He also motivated students to appreciate science fiction not merely as entertainment but as a medium for intellectual exploration and creative thinking.

            The highlight of the programme was the screening of the acclaimed science fiction film Interstellar. The film captivated the audience with its compelling narrative, breathtaking visuals, and thought-provoking exploration of space travel, time dilation, artificial intelligence, gravity, and the enduring strength of human relationships. Students watched the film with keen interest and appreciated its blend of scientific concepts and emotional storytelling.

            Following the screening, an engaging interactive discussion session was conducted. Faculty members and students actively participated in the discussion by sharing their observations, interpretations, and perspectives on the film. Various themes such as space exploration, scientific innovation, environmental sustainability, the future of humanity, and the role of imagination in scientific discovery were discussed in detail. The session provided students with an opportunity to develop analytical thinking, communication skills, and an appreciation of interdisciplinary learning by connecting literature, cinema, and science.

            The programme concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Dr. R. B. Rathod, who expressed sincere gratitude to the Principal, faculty members, non-teaching staff, and all the students for their enthusiastic participation and valuable contribution to the success of the programme. He also appreciated the efforts of the Department of English in organizing an informative and intellectually enriching event.

            The celebration of Indian Science Fiction Day proved to be an inspiring and educational experience. The programme successfully encouraged students to explore scientific ideas through literature and cinema, promoted curiosity about emerging technologies, and reinforced the importance of imagination, innovation, and critical thinking in higher education.
