Activities: Seminar and Screening of The Martian
The Department of English, Lal Bahadur Shastri College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Satara, celebrated Indian Science Fiction Day on 19th July 2025 with academic enthusiasm. The programme was organized to create awareness among students about the significance of science fiction as a literary and cinematic genre.
As part of the celebration, a seminar was conducted by Dr. R. B. Rathod, who introduced students to the major features, themes, and educational significance of science fiction. He highlighted how science fiction connects scientific imagination with literature, technology, human values, and contemporary social issues.
The programme also included the screening of the science-fiction movie The Martian. The film provided students with an opportunity to understand scientific problem-solving, human resilience, innovation, and the role of technology through an engaging cinematic experience.
The celebration was informative and interactive, encouraging students to develop an interest in science fiction, scientific thinking, literature, and cinema. The programme successfully combined academic discussion with experiential learning and contributed to enhancing students’ critical and analytical thinking skills.
