Research Poster Topic: Teaching Learning of English: A Study of Select Hollywood Movies on Biographies of Scientists
The students of Lal Bahadur Shastri College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Satara actively participated in the Avishkar Research Competition, an academic platform that encourages students to develop research aptitude, creativity, critical thinking, and innovative approaches to academic subjects.
Miss. Saniya Bagwan and Miss. Zoya Patel participated in the competition by presenting a research poster entitled “Teaching Learning of English: A Study of Select Hollywood Movies on Biographies of Scientists.” The study explored the potential of selected Hollywood movies based on the lives and biographies of scientists as effective teaching-learning resources for English. The students focused on how such films can make English learning more interesting, meaningful, and engaging while simultaneously introducing learners to the achievements, struggles, and contributions of eminent scientists.
The research poster highlighted the educational value of films in developing students’ listening, speaking, vocabulary, comprehension, critical thinking, and communication skills. It also emphasized that carefully selected biographical films can provide authentic language exposure and create opportunities for classroom discussion, interpretation, and reflective learning.
Participation in the Avishkar Research Competition provided the students with valuable exposure to the research process, including identification of a topic, collection and interpretation of information, preparation of a research poster, and presentation of their findings before an academic audience. The activity helped develop their confidence, presentation skills, research attitude, and ability to communicate academic ideas effectively.
The participation of Miss. Saniya Bagwan and Miss. Zoya Patel reflects the institution’s commitment to promoting research culture, innovation, experiential learning, and student participation in academic activities. Their research work demonstrated an interdisciplinary approach by connecting English language teaching with cinema, science, biography, and technology-enabled learning.
